5 star lawn and pest FAQ intro text image

Do I need to water after treatment?

Yes — watering helps activate fertilizers and certain treatments. We’ll give you exact instructions after each visit.

What is aeration and why is it important?

Aeration relieves soil compaction, allowing water, air, and nutrients to reach the roots more effectively.

What pests do you treat for?

We treat common Florida pests like ants, roaches, spiders, fleas, ticks, and more.

How often do I need pest control service?

Most homes do best with quarterly service, but some situations require monthly or bi-monthly treatments.

Are your treatments safe for kids and pets?

Yes — once dry, our products are safe when used as directed.

What is pest exclusion?

Exclusion involves sealing entry points around your home to prevent pests/rodents from getting inside.

What is considered an uncontrollable grassy weed and why can't you treat for them?

Some grassy weeds, such as crabgrass, Alexander grass, Bermuda grass, and torpedo grass are considered ‘uncontrollable.’ This is because there are currently no herbicides available that can target and eliminate these grasses without also damaging or killing your lawn.

Why is there blue dye in my lawn and why is it only in certain areas?

A temporary blue dye is used during our weed control applications to mark spot-treated areas. This allows both you and the technician to clearly see which weeds have been treated during the service. The dye is temporary and will not permanently stain surfaces.

How long does it take for weeds to start dying after your service?

Depending on the type of weed and the treatment applied, results can begin to appear in as little as 2–3 days, while some weeds may take up to 2–3 weeks to fully die off. For the health of your lawn, 5 STAR cannot retreat any sooner than 3 weeks, as doing so could result in over-application of herbicide and potential damage to your grass.

Will the rain affect my treatment?

In most cases, rain will not negatively impact your treatment and may even help enhance its effectiveness. After your service, your technician will provide specific watering instructions on your appointment record, which will be emailed to you once the service is complete or can be accessed through your customer portal.

What watering practices are most beneficial for maintaining a healthy lawn?

5 STAR recommends watering your lawn in the early morning hours, finishing just before sunrise. This helps avoid extending the natural dew period, which can contribute to weed and fungal issues. Early morning watering is also ideal because wind is typically lighter and less water is lost to evaporation from the sun, allowing for better absorption into the lawn.
